Birders,
Around 11:30 a.m. this morning I parked near the Nurnberg Road boat launch and noticed a group of 4 or 5 Golden-crowned Kinglets flitting through the brush below the loop road. This species has been rather rare this mid-winter and may be early returning migrants. I then walked to Hemlock Springs and didn't find any shorebirds, but a River Otter slide and footprints were great to see. Lastly, Steve Begnoche reported a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks that he and Brenda have seen near their Hamlin Township home the last couple of weeks. These hawks generally return in late February/early March but might be early migrants in this mild winter.
